NOLA is a fun team to watch, truly: they have one of the best QBs in the league, and always seem to make things a little more exciting. One of the few NFL teams I have been privileged enough to watch in person (2013 Saints @ Patriots, what a game, look up the highlights), they have some fantasy options that you will want in 2016.
Let’s start with that QB: Drew Brees, or Breesus as some people enjoy calling him, is one of the best signal callers around today. I won’t bore you with stats (primarily because I’ve already done that in the Brees write-up for the Top 10 QBs), but suffice to say that he is fantastic, and even if he had cardboard cut outs as his WRs, he’d still find a way to get to 4000+ yards and 30+ TDs.
The WR spot, all jokes aside, has actually changed a decent amount over the last few seasons. Brandin Cooks is now the #1, and Willie Snead occupies the #2 role – the two of them are fantastic options. Rookie Michael Thomas shows flashes of promise, and he too could be worth a look. You should also be aware of Brandon Coleman, who can sub in for you in a pinch, though only break glass in case of emergencies (i.e. injuries).
With TE Benjamin Watson off to Baltimore (where he promptly tore his Achilles tendon and is out for the season, unfortunately), the Saints went out and got Coby Fleener to pair with Michael Hoomanawanui and Josh Hill. Fleener is the more fantasy-friendly target, and though you should always temper expectations for players who have changed teams recently, remember that Brees loves him some TE, and Fleener is no slouch.
RB has some more options as well, with Mark Ingram back from injury, and his capable backup, Tim Hightower (who saved many a fantasy league last year, including my own). While Ingram is healthy, he’ll be a top 10 back, but just keep Hightower on the radar in case of injury. CJ Spiller is still in New Orleans as well, but he and Ingram fill different roles – finally, keep an eye out for RB Daniel Lasco, as the rookie could steal some touches and be more of a nuisance than fantasy owners might want.
